Kano Government Engages Online Media Guild on Ethics at One-Day Capacity Building Workshop

The Association of Online Media Guild organized a one-day capacity-building workshop, drawing journalists from various media organizations across Kano state. During the opening session, Kano State Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, addressed the participants.

I congratulate the Online Media Guild, and we assure you of our support. If there are areas where we can offer support, we will do so,” stated Commissioner Dantiye.

He emphasized the importance of combating fake news associated with online media and highlighted the distinction between trained journalists and others. Dantiye urged adherence to journalistic ethics and encouraged journalists to leverage their skills and platforms to disseminate accurate information.

Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Communication to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state, underscored the cordial relationship between the government and the media. He commended the association for providing a platform for professional development.

“We take the online media seriously at the Kano Government House. We will review the issue of Retainership with the Online Media Guild,” stated Dawakin Tofa.

Abdullateef Abubakar Jos, interim chairman of the association, described the Online Media Guild as an association of journalists operating online with members across Nigeria, headquartered in Kano. He emphasized the commitment to promoting ethical journalism and delivering accurate news.
