Kano Electricity Distribution Plc. (KEDCO) has improved power supply in Rijiyar Zaki, Bayero University and Gaida axes of Kano State.
A statement issued to journalists yesterday by KEDCO’s Head, Corporate Communication, Sani Bala Sani said the improved electricity supply in the aforementioned areas followed the commissioning of a new 33kV Gaida feeder in Kumbotso Transmission Station.
The statement also said, “the new Gaida feeder will de-load Rijiyar Zaki 33kV feeder from 30/40 TR2 Tamburawa Transmission Station by over 50% to improve power supply and ensure network stability.”
Commenting on this development, KEDCO’s Ag. Managing Director/CEO, Abubakar Yusuf, said, “the project will improve supply reliability within Rijiyar Zaki, BUK, Gaida, Dorayi, and environs.”
“The bifurcation of 33kV Rijiyar Zaki Feeder and subsequent commissioning of 33kV Gaida Feeder is a strategic move to address the increased demand for electricity in these areas and ensure reliable and efficient power supply to our teeming customers,” the MD/CEO said.
In his remarks, the Company’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO), Engr Inuwa Bala Daneji, said, “this move will drastically reduce KEDCO’s technical losses and downtimes as the feeder is now shorter and de-loaded; Earlier, it was running in overloaded condition thereby adversely affecting its quality and reliability of supply.”
Also speaking, the Regional Operations Manager, Engr. Badomasi Yusuf, who said the new feeder will improve stability of the distribution network, added that, it will feed from 60MVA T4 from Kumbotso Transmission Station and that KEDCO engineers confirmed the transformer will not be overloaded.
