The Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Higher Education, Professor Auwalu Halliru Arzai, disclosed on Monday that the state government set aside a whopping sum of 1.06 billion for developmental projects at Yusuf Maitama Sule University.
Professor Arzai made the revelation during a familiarization visit to the institution as part of the government’s efforts to assess the state of affairs for urgent intervention.
He emphasized that the state government, under Alhaji Abba Kabir, accorded priority attention to the education sector, recognizing it as the backbone of every society.
The Special Adviser applauded the foresight of the past administration of Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for establishing Yusuf Maitama Sule University, which is now one of the fastest-growing universities in Nigeria
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, stated that the university currently offers 36 undergraduate and 48 postgraduate programs since its establishment in 2012. It was ranked No. 1 by the NUC panel of accreditation in the Northwestern part of the country.
Professor Kurmawa added that the university will begin a degree program in Law this session and commence a part-time degree program for civil servants in the next academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the government of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for improving educational indices and elevating the educational sector to greater heights in the state. He urged the government to expedite the completion of abandoned projects in the university and address the lack of hostel accommodation.
Professor Kurawa also applauded philanthropists supporting the institution, especially Aliko Saidu Bebeji and Alhaji Aminu Dantata, while appealing to other wealthy individuals to emulate them.
