KNSG Allocates 4.6 Billion Naira for Senate Building and Other Gigantic Projects at Sa’adatu Rimi University.
The Kano State government is set to spend 4.6 billion Naira for the construction of a Senate building and other significant projects at the newly upgraded Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education.
Professor Auwalu Halliru Arzai, the Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Higher Education, revealed this during a familiarization visit to the University, following the Governor’s directives to assess the institution’s current status.
Professor Arzai mentioned that the government of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has allocated 5 billion Naira to sponsor 1001 indigenes for foreign scholarships, 0.7 billion for the payment of Kano state students studying at Bayero University, Kano, and has reduced the registration fees for indigenes in the state-owned 12 tertiary institutions by 50%, among other initiatives.
Auwalu Arzai added that the government’s motive for sending Kano state indigenes to study abroad is not only for them to acquire certificates and return but also to bring new innovations and strategies to the curriculum, especially with the advent of forensic science, which will benefit the state.
He expressed delight with the remarkable progress recorded by the institution and assured that if sustained, it would be among the fastest-growing new universities in the country.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education advised the University’s management to be cautious in admitting students based on their academic capacity to avoid diluting the quality of education.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Isa Yahaya Bunkure Makaman Rano, said the University started well as the first University of education in the Northern part of the country, admitting 2090 undergraduates.
The Vice-Chancellor lamented that the Nigerian University Commission has granted approval to the University to complete the ongoing NCE and degree courses, which are affiliated with BUK and ABU, for 5 and 6 years, respectively.
Professor Bunkure commended the state government’s efforts for allocating 29.95% to the education sector, surpassing the UNESCO declaration of 26%.
During the visit, the Special Adviser inspected the facilities at the institution and interacted separately with the management, staff, and student union leaders.
