In a somber statement released by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, the nation expresses deep sorrow over the demise of Ghali Na’aba, former Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Na’aba’s legacy is marked by a principled commitment to national issues, advocating for the independence of the Legislature, and fortifying institutions crucial to our emerging democracy, even at significant personal and professional costs.

His heroic stand against the third term agenda of anti-democratic forces remains a pivotal chapter in Nigeria’s political history, resulting in personal sacrifices that prevented his return to parliament. Yet, Na’aba retained his national status and relevance.

Beyond thwarting the third term agenda, Na’aba consistently held the executive accountable for their actions, with instances nearly leading to the impeachment of the President.

The NLC mourns the loss of this distinguished gentleman, a principled politician, and one of the paramount heroes of Nigerian democracy. Condolences extend to his family, political associates, and the leadership of the National Assembly during this difficult time.
