The first time this week’s column ventures into Express 90.FM’s sports unit, unveiling the Salisu Musa Jegus, affectionately known as “Zakin Labarin Wasanni.” A nicknamed initiated nearly a decade ago by this column writer.

Jegus emerges as a sporting luminary, sport journalist with encyclopedic knowledge of both local and international sports.

Born on the 16th of June 1966 in Old Kano Municipal, within the historical confines of the Old Kano region. His educational journey is a rich tapestry, having undergone diverse processes from Quranic teachings to Western education, showcasing a commitment to holistic learning.

With an illustrious career spanning 35 years, Salisu Jegus dedicated a significant portion of his professional life to various government roles, ultimately retiring at an impressive level 13. Along the way, he equipped himself with valuable skills through numerous news reporting and photography courses, demonstrating a relentless pursuit of knowledge.

In 2014, Salisu embarked on a new chapter as he ventured into the realm of radio broadcasting with Express Radio. His role as a sports reporter and producer allowed him to seamlessly merge his passion for football with his broadcasting prowess. A true football enthusiast, coach, and talent hunter.

Salisu Jegus is currently making an indelible mark, as he usually does by nurturing and discovering numerous young players in both his home state and the nation at large. His multifaceted contributions extend to sports analysis and commentary, solidifying his status as a respected figure in the sports media landscape in Kano and nation at large.

Salisu’s future ambition reflects his compassionate spirit as he aspires to continue making a positive impact by aiding the less privileged.
