A former member of the House of Representatives, Nuhu Gudaji Kazaure, claimed that the former Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, diverted over 89 trillion Naira, equivalent to 10 years of Nigeria’s budget, during his tenure as CBN Governor from 2014 to 2022 NIGERIAN TRACKER learnt.

Gudaji Kazaure made this statement while responding to questions from the popular Hausa Channel DCL monitored by NIGERIAN TRACKER

During President Buhari’s administration, Gudaji Kazaure chaired a committee to investigate funds allegedly diverted by Emefiele. He now claims vindication based on revelations from a committee set up by President Bola Ahmad Tinubu to investigate Emefiele’s tenure as CBN Governor.

The Tinubu-appointed committee revealed that Emefiele operated over 593 foreign accounts where Nigeria’s money was stashed.

Gudaji Kazaure informed Hausa DCL that time has vindicated him, noting that during the Buhari administration, he made efforts to ensure the former President allowed them to proceed with the investigation so that the former President’s name would be written in gold. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain.

An activist, Mahdi Shehu, who contributed during the program, stated that in advanced European countries, if such looting occurred, former President Muhammadu Buhari and his cabinet, including former Governor of the Central Bank Godwin Emefiele, would be in jail.
