Kaduna-based fiery Islamic cleric, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, criticized certain Islamic clerics for misunderstanding a program aimed at supporting Northern girls in improving their Western education.
Dr. Gumi made this statement during one of his preaching sessions at Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna last week, as monitored by NIGERIAN TRACKER.
NIGERIAN TRACKER reported that recently, some Islamic clerics in Northern Nigeria criticized the AGILE program, an initiative for learning and empowerment for adolescent girls.
Dr. Gumi, a retired Major in the Nigerian Army who succeeded his father Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, emphasized the importance of seeking understanding before criticizing initiatives like AGILE. He pointed out that the AGILE program, a collaboration between the World Bank and the Federal Government to uplift education for young girls in Northern Nigeria, does not pose any problems.
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi compared these Islamic clerics to those upholding the extremist ideologies of Boko Haram, stating that their mental thinking is very limited compared to the reality of the situation. Dr. Ahmad urged clerics to seek understanding before condemning initiatives like AGILE, citing a Quranic verse that emphasizes the importance of seeking comprehension in serious matters.
