In the aftermath of the legal disputes surrounding the gubernatorial elections in Kano on March 18, 2023, the APC Governors’ Forum must break its silence and rally behind its candidate, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna. Recent victories at the election tribunal and the Appeal Court set the stage for the final judgment at the Supreme Court, emphasizing the need for moral support from the APC Governors to uphold the party’s integrity.

Sola said the election dispute, initiated by the APC against the NNPP candidate, has been marked by legal intricacies, public scrutiny, and NNPP’s campaign against the judiciary’s independence. The APC Governors’ Forum must assert its influence to ensure a fair resolution at the Supreme Court, especially as the NNPP appeals to the international community, raising concerns about external interference and potential repercussions on the party’s broader image.

The conspicuous silence of the APC Governors’ Forum during these legal proceedings is concerning. Now, more than ever, the forum must unite and vocally support Dr. Nasiru Gawuna to uphold democracy, justice, and the rule of law. Commendably, the judiciary has consistently upheld the APC’s claims, voiding over 100,000 votes contributing to the NNPP’s supposed victory. The APC Governors’ Forum should commend the judiciary for its stance against electoral malpractice.

Seyi said as the Supreme Court, the final arbiter, prepares to deliver its judgment, the APC Governors’ Forum can play a pivotal role in reinforcing the message of non-interference, respecting the judiciary’s independence. The forum must also put the President on notice against allowing extra-democratic forces to influence the judgment, preserving the APC’s commitment to justice and transparency.

Seyi Oluronsola said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s legacy as a faithful party man should be preserved. The APC Governors’ Forum must impress upon him not to succumb to any pressure, ensuring his continued legacy as a party man.

Seyi added that the forum must rise to the occasion, actively supporting Dr. Nasiru Gawuna in the final stages of this legal battle. The APC’s unity and democratic values are at stake, and the forum’s participation will send a strong message about the party’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
