Goals Galore and Accolades as Kano Athletes Shine in PARA Games

Just days after their arrival, Kano state athletes took center stage at the ongoing 2022 National Para Games in Abuja. Despite pending funds from the state government, these athletes displayed exceptional prowess, securing gold, bronze, and exceeding expectations in various events.

The ancient commercial hub of West Africa registered for 12 out of the 15 sporting events, including Para Soccer, Para Shooting, Para Taekwondo, Para Karate, and Para Powerlifting, among others. The spirited Kano team excelled in several competitions, showcasing their skills and determination.
In Amputee Football, the state team triumphed over Plateau by a scoreline of 5-1. The Volleyball team continued the winning streak, defeating Kaduna with a 3-1 set win.

Para Soccer witnessed an outstanding performance by the Kano team, dominating Team Sokoto with a resounding 13-1 victory and overpowering Lagos by a scoreline of 5-1. The team further demonstrated their prowess in Amputee Soccer, securing victories against Sokoto (5-1) and Kaduna (4-0), and a 2-1 win against Lagos. This remarkable performance earned them a spot in the final against Kwara Team on December 12, 2023.

Abel Peter, representing Team Kano, clinched a bronze medal in the 50-meter breaststroke men’s class and experienced their first defeat in sitting Volleyball, narrowly losing 3-1 to Team Bauchi.

Adeleke Abejoye Odunaya created a historic moment by securing the first gold medal for the state in Swimming through the 50-meter freestyle event.

As the tournament progresses, Team Kano aims to maintain its strong presence in other events, competing against Plateau in Para Soccer, Para Shooting, Para Canoeing, Wheelchair Tennis (Male Double/Female Double), Para Taekwondo, and more. The team remains focused on achieving further success and glory.
