The main opposition political party in Jigawa state, the People Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the state government of engaging in illegal council deductions to finance local government elections.

Former Kazaure local government People Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Honourable Mustapha Ibrahim Danshatu, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen.

He accused the state government of an alleged illegal deduction and remittance of 27 local government council funds for the forthcoming local government council elections.

According to him, “We are reliably informed that the state government is forcing the local councils’ chairmen to pay some amount of money for the election.”

Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in Jigawa state, Honourable Bala Usman Chamo, refuted the allegations.

“The allegations are false and baseless and were made just for political reasons.”

“As far as I’m concerned, I don’t know anything like this. We, the local government council chairmen in the state, are not contributing any money for the local government election campaign.”

Additionally, the Special Advisor to the Governor on Local Government Affairs, Honourable Abdurrahman Alkasim, denied the allegations.
