In a world press conference held at the Mumbayya House Auditorium Complex in Kano on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, members of the APC Legal Team addressed the controversy surrounding the actions of self-proclaimed “volunteer lawyers” supporting Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The APC Legal Team expressed its strong condemnation of these lawyers challenging a court decision while emphasizing the recognized authority of the Nigerian Bar Association as the sole association for lawyers.

The legal team emphasized the importance of respecting court decisions and reiterated its support for Dr. Nasir Yusuf Gawuna.

The lawyers who delagated Barrister Hadiza Nasir Ahmad said they staunchly advocated for upholding the rule of law, safeguarding the sanctity of the court, and rejecting any attempts to tarnish the court’s image or engage in blackmail.

Hadiza said the team urged the 200 lawyers involved in the controversy to rise above political machinations and allow the court to execute its duties without external interference.

Recognizing the NNPP’s active campaigning and call for demonstrations in protest of the court’s decisions, the APC Legal Team maintained confidence in the court’s commitment to conducting the case solely on its merit.

They commended the people of Kano for their law-abiding nature, emphasizing their commitment to upholding the rule of law.

The team also acknowledged the diligent efforts of the security forces in maintaining law and order, expressing gratitude for their crucial role in upholding peace and stability in the community.

The statement, read by Barrister Hadiza Nasir Ahmad and co-signed by Mustapha Idris Esq, concluded with a call for lawyers to preserve the integrity of the legal profession and champion the rule of law even in the face of unfavorable judgments. The APC Legal Team reiterated its commitment to justice, emphasizing the need for a fair and impartial legal process.
