The Kano State Government is receiving well-deserved praise for its commitment to the education sector, as it allocates 29.95% of the 2024 budget appropriations, totaling over 95 billion Naira. This allocation exceeds the UNESCO declaration of 26%.

Professor Auwalu Halliru Arzai, the Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Higher Education, lauded this initiative during his visit to the School of Technology on Monday. This visit is part of his ongoing efforts to tour the 12 Higher Institutions in the State.

Professor Auwalu Arzai emphasized that Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has consistently placed a high priority on education since its inauguration. Notable achievements include sponsoring 1001 students to study abroad, reducing student registration fees at state higher institutions by 50%, providing instructional materials and uniforms to pupils in primary schools, and covering 700 million Naira in registration fees for Kano state indigenes studying at Bayero University.

The Special Adviser also mentioned that the State Governor instructed his office to visit state-owned higher institutions to assess their current state of affairs for prompt intervention. He expressed his satisfaction with the quality of training provided by the School of Technology, especially in the realm of entrepreneurship skills development.

Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Sani, Director of the School of Technology, revealed that the school has been in existence for 47 years and has been a leading institution in producing self-employed youths for many decades. He commended the state’s efforts in revitalizing the education sector and urged the government to ensure the adequate provision of consumables, given the practical-oriented nature of the courses offered.

Dr. Sani also sought government support for the retraining of technologists operating machines to enhance their knowledge continually, in line with the demands of technological advancement.
