The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has proudly announced HRH Igwe (Pharm) Alex Uzo Onyido, Ezechuamagha of Ogidi Kingdom, as the recipient of the prestigious NUJ Anambra State 2023 Man of the Year award.

Igwe Onyido holds the revered position of traditional ruler in Ogidi, the hometown of the late literary icon Chinua Achebe, located in Idemmil North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Notably, he also represents traditional rulers in the South-East Governors’ Forum Consultative Committee on Health (CCH).

Igwe Onyido’s selection was the result of a rigorous process that included extensive screening and voting to determine the individual who would be honored as the NUJ Man of the Year for 2023.

The award ceremony is scheduled for November 2, 2023, at the distinguished Ezeemo International Press Center, NUJ Secretariat complex in Awka, situated behind the CBN Awka. The event will commence at 11 am.

Choosing the ultimate awardee was a challenging task as several contenders boasted strong testimonies and endorsements in areas such as philanthropy, youth empowerment, job creation, societal development, communal sustainability, and advancement initiatives.

However, Igwe Onyido stood out due to his remarkable industrial expertise, administrative acumen, and significant contributions to humanity, particularly in the advancement of the health sector, oil and gas, and manufacturing, particularly in pharmaceuticals and marketing.

Igwe Ogidi, who also serves as the Chairman of a conglomerate of companies including Pal Pharmaceutical Ind. Ltd. in Kano; Pal Oil & Gas LTD in Ogidi, Anambra State; Pal Plastic Ind. Ltd. in Kano; and Alben Healthcare Ind. in Ogidi, Anambra State, will receive the award during the grand finale of NUJ Anambra State Council’s 2023 Press Week

This event serves as one of the highlights of the week-long 2023 NUJ Press Week celebrations. NUJ Press Week is an annual event that provides journalists with the opportunity to reflect on their annual performances, challenges, and relationships with their internal and external stakeholders.

The lead-up to the grand finale of the week-long celebration, which commences on Friday, October 27, 2023, features a series of activities, including media chats, facility visits to Tiger Foods Company Limited, a picnic to Ogbunka waterfalls, charity visits to community children’s homes, and a novelty football match with members of the State House of Assembly. It culminates with the Press Week/Man of the Year Award and the presentation of the Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna Ethical Journalist Award.

The keynote speech for the event will revolve around “Pragmatic Media Practice as an Antidote to Sustainable Development in a Distressed Economy: A Focus on Anambra State.”

The NUJ Anambra Man of the Year Award, 2023, is a testament to the recipient’s outstanding track record and achievements. In the previous year, Dame Dr. Ada Umeoji, OON, (Agubataofia), DMD of Zenith Bank, was honored with the prestigious NUJ Anambra Man of the Year Award
