Kano, Nigeria, September 30, 2023 – In the wake of recent political upheaval following the Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal judgement , the Kungiyar Matasan Kano, a prominent youth advocacy group representing Kano State’s youth and affiliated community-based organizations, has issued a poignant call for peace.
The chairman of the group Comrade Alhasan Haruna stated this while addressing newsmen in Kano.
The group has expressed deep concerns over the potential for violence orchestrated by vested interests and has appealed for a peaceful resolution to the post-judgement tensions.

The Kungiyar Matasan Kano, alongside numerous affiliated organizations, representing a cross-section of Kano State’s diverse local governments, has voiced their apprehensions regarding the recent judgment of the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The group has openly expressed concerns about the possible manipulation of the tribunal’s judgment by politically motivated actors to incite violence and destabilize the state.
In response to reports of uncomplimentary statements allegedly made by one of the tribunal judges against followers of a litigant, the youth advocacy group has called for a comprehensive investigation. They are demanding an impartial judicial process that upholds justice and fairness.
Urgent Appeal to Uphold Impartiality and Justice
The Kungiyar Matasan Kano has fervently urged the Nigerian Judiciary to maintain its reputation for impartiality and justice. They emphasize the judiciary’s role as a common ground where justice-seekers place their hopes and expect fairness.
Monitoring by National and International Stakeholders
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the youth group has reached out to both national and international stakeholders. They have specifically called upon the President of Nigeria, the United States Ambassador, the United Kingdom Ambassador, the European Union, and the United Nations Secretary-General to closely monitor developments in Kano State. Their plea is for these entities to play a role in promoting peace, stability, and justice within the state.
Unity and Responsible Leadership Emphasized
In an exceptional show of unity, the Kungiyar Matasan Kano has implored political leaders, elites, and Ulamas, not just within Kano State but from across the country, to unite and speak out against any attempts to undermine the will of the people and spark chaos.

Additionally, the youth advocacy group has called upon all citizens to actively identify politicians with irresponsible intentions and hold them accountable through legal means. This measure, they believe, is crucial to prevent political manipulation and protect the state’s peace and stability.
