The USAID Youth-Powered Ecosystem to Advance Urban Adolescent Health (YPE4AH) and Kano state Government have emphasised the need to improve the health and wellbeing of out-of-school adolescents in urban slums.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Dantiye, disclosed this during the official media campaign launch of a youth-powered ecosystem to advance urban adolescent health holding at Ungogo Local Government Area.
Dantiye lauded the programmes started under the YPE4AH project aimed at improving the health and well-being of out-of-school youths and empowering them with skills, social capital and resources to realise their full potential.
Speaking during the launch of USAID YPE4AH TEENSMATA campaign, the Head of Strategy, YPE4AH, Carol Ofem, said the project had commenced community-level program implementation in Kano.
Added that fostering an enabling social and policy environment for adolescent health and development is paramount in achieving a healthy community.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran, represented by Dr Ibrahim Aliyu, said the ministry would accord all the needed support, geared towards achieving the stated goals.
USAID YPE4AH is a five-year (May 2020 –May 2025) programme funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
