Kano State Government Revokes Private School Certificates

Kano state government has revoked the operational certificates of all private schools operating in the state.

The decision, Daily it was learnt was taken on Saturday during a meeting with private school proprietors.

The Special Adviser to the governor on Private and Voluntary Institutions, Alhaji Baba Abubakar Umar disclosed that all private schools are required to complete new registration forms promptly, as government has initiated issuance of fresh certificates.

Umar explained that the action underscores the government’s resolve to ensure that private schools adhere to the prescribed laws and regulations for operating private schools in the state.

“Private school proprietors are reminded of their responsibility to pay the 10 percent tax to the government. This financial commitment always propels advancements in the sector,” he noted.

The special adviser reassured all stakeholders that he will ensure Justice and fairness in overseeing the activities of private schools

stressed the need for enforcement of operational regulations by the proprietors of private schools which encompassing facilities, learning environment, curriculum, and academic schedules.

The Special Adviser also reassured parents of the utmost priority placed on safeguarding their interests and that of their children.

Responding, Alhaji Muhammad Malam Adamu, Chairman of the National Association of Private Schools Owners, Kano State Chapter, lauded the government’s intervention, viewing it as a commendable step to elevate the local education sector.

Adamu highlighted the essential nature of structured operations, asserting that any endeavor without regulatory guidance is susceptible to instability.

He called on private school proprietors to collaborate with government in facilitating the reforms, as the implemented measures are poised to benefit all stakeholders.

During the meeting, a newly designed software for comprehensive data collection of private and voluntary institutions across Kano was unveiled. In addition, registration forms for new school entries were distributed, marking the commencement of the enhanced registration process.
