The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has expressed serious concerns over the planned nationwide protests by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC). The IGP, while recognizing the constitutional right to peaceful protest, urges all parties involved to ensure the demonstrations are conducted peacefully to prevent any possible takeover by miscreants, given past experiences of such protests turning violent in major cities.

In response to the situation, the IGP has directed the Commissioners of Police and supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to engage in constructive discussions with the NLC and TUC leadership to find common ground and address grievances amicably.

The Nigeria Police Force reassures citizens that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety and security of the public during the planned protests. The IGP emphasizes that the Police will respond firmly and lawfully to any attempts by miscreants to exploit the situation for violence and disruptions.

As the nation prepares for potential challenges during the demonstrations, the Nigeria Police Force is fully prepared to deploy all available resources to maintain law and order and safeguard lives and property.

The IGP calls on all officers to uphold the highest standards of conduct and professionalism during this period. He also urges stakeholders, including the NLC, TUC, and civil society groups, to embrace peaceful dialogue as the most effective means of resolving grievances.

The Police remains committed to providing a secure environment for open dialogue, constructive engagement, and mutual understanding to facilitate the exercise of civil rights.
