KANO, NIGERIA – Auwalu Lawan Aranposu, the Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government in Kano state, has claimed that his suspension by the legislative council was politically motivated and aimed at appeasing certain political figures.

In an exclusive interview with Nigerian Tracker, Aranposu revealed that despite the suspension, he has not received any official communication regarding the matter. He expressed his belief that certain council members harbor grudges against him, leading to the decision to suspend him from his position.

According to Aranposu, the council targeted him due to his alleged association with Kwankwasiyya, a political group in the state.

He stated that when he opposed the move to remove the local council’s Deputy Speaker, they accused him of being loyal to Kwankwasiyya.

The Chairman further claimed that the council’s actions were influenced by political godfathers, aiming to satisfy their interests.

Aranposu pointed out that the accusations against the Deputy Speaker, linking him to the Kano state Head of Civil Service who is also alleged to be loyal to Kwankwasiyya movement. were merely a pretext to justify his suspension.

“I have not received any letter regarding my suspension. This move is purely political, and they are accusing me of supporting Kwankwasiyya to justify their actions,” stated Aranposu during the interview.

As the situation unfolds, local political tensions in Nassarawa remain high, with residents closely monitoring developments surrounding the Chairman’s suspension. Authorities have yet to comment officially on the matter, and further investigations into the allegations and motivations behind the suspension are expected.

Nigerian Tracker will continue to follow the story closely and provide updates as more information becomes available

Auwal Aranposu was elected under the All Progressive Congress in 2021 during the administration of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of APC.

But in 2023 New Nigeria People’s party led by former Governor of Kano Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso took over the leadership of the state while the remaining 44 LG chairmen are under APC and are expected to finish their terms in January 2024
