Abuja, Thursday – The National Economic Council (NEC) is currently holding a crucial meeting at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja. Chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the meeting is attended by all 36 state governors of the Federation, the Director General of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, and representatives from the World Bank and other government agencies.
The second meeting of the Council is expected to focus on the deliberation of the recently reviewed palliative package for Nigerian citizens, which comes in the wake of the removal of petrol subsidy and the subsequent increase in petrol prices due to market forces.
The review of the palliative package was ordered by President Bola Tinubu and has been prioritized on the meeting’s agenda, alongside other important matters of national interest.
Amidst the deliberations, the media has been excused, and the meeting is being held in a closed-door session. Following the conclusion of the NEC meeting, it is anticipated that resolutions and decisions reached will be communicated to the media for public awareness and transparency.
The Council’s gathering comes as the nation faces critical economic challenges, making the discussions crucial in formulating strategies and measures to mitigate the impact of the petrol subsidy removal on the well-being of Nigerians. The outcomes of the NEC meeting are eagerly awaited by citizens, stakeholders, and observers alike as they hold the potential to shape the country’s economic path in the coming months
