ABUJA, 9th July 2023 – The Department of State Services (DSS) has firmly refuted recent claims made by various online media platforms, including SaharaReporters, Peoples Gazette, and Jackson Ude. The Service has categorically stated that these reports are baseless and misleading, aiming to tarnish its reputation.

The allegations range from false accounts of the DSS raiding the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), to accusations of snooping on Judges involved in the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. Additionally, a report by Peoples Gazette falsely claimed that Senator Abdulaziz Yari was arrested for refusing to answer a phone call from the President.

The DSS has clarified that it did not conduct any operations at the ICPC or CCB offices, and both agencies have issued official statements refuting the allegations. The claim that Yari’s invitation was related to a phone call refusal is deemed ludicrous by the Service.

These accusations lack credibility and factual basis, as the DSS emphasizes that they are mere fabrications concocted by individuals and publications known for peddling fake news and engaging in character assassinations. The Service maintains that the purpose of these false reports is to undermine its integrity and capabilities.

While the DSS is aware of the sponsors behind these malicious campaigns, it remains committed to upholding the rule of law and respecting the autonomy of other agencies. It will not be deterred from carrying out its statutory duties or lawful orders from constituted authorities. The Service affirms that any invitation or custody of individuals will strictly adhere to legal procedures.

Reiterating its dedication to national security and its professional conduct, the DSS urges the public to disregard these misleading stories designed to sow disaffection in the country and discredit the agency’s leadership. It pledges to continue working with relevant stakeholders to address security challenges in line with its mandate and the directives of the President.

Peter Afunanya, Ph.D., fsi, the Public Relations Officer of the Department of State Services, emphasized the Service’s resilience and called on the public not to be swayed by the distractions posed by detractors
