Emir Aminu Ado Bayero

Former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State and the National Leader of Kwankwasiyya Movement has described the Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero as a humble personality that he nearly appointed as Emir of Kano in 2014.

Kwankwaso was confiding this to a close associate who doesn’t want to be named by this paper during a meeting shortly after the inauguration of Abba Kabir Yusuf as governor of Kano.

Kwankwaso, a former Senator of Kano Central Senatorial District restated that whenever he met the Emir of Kano whether at a function or personally, the Emir used to greet him with the highest respect.

” I don’t have issue with him, I nearly appointed him as Emir of Kano but God didn’t wish it that time.

The government at the centre frustrated me to appoint Sanusi not because I’m comfortable with him but to hurt Jonathan and his people whom I’m not in good time with.

The rush of that government to announce Lamido Sanusi Ado Bayero as the Emir makes me annoyed and I decided to appoint Sanusi Lamido as Emir of Kano.

The source who pleaded anonymity said he has no doubt about the authenticity of the conversation that ensued between them.

Before I left government, I had to send him some government officials over the Almajiri’s that used to stay at the palace despite the fact that we banned begging in the state.

We called his attention to stop giving them money, that he is supporting begging but he turned on deaf ears”. The source said

The former governor told our source that the dethroned 14th Emir of Kano had issues with Kwankwaso in his first tenure as governor of Kano to the extent that the former governor had to close the Kano State government account at United Bank for Africa.

Sanusi has described Kwankwaso in so many of his articles as a rural aristocrat who cannot govern Kano well.

He also described the management of the Kano State economy as ‘Ajino Moto Economics’.

It can be recalled that the fourteenth Emir of Kano Muhammad Sunusi II was appointed on the 8th of June following the death of his grandfather Alhaji Ado Bayero.

Then Governor Kwankwaso resisted Pressures to appoint the first son of Alhaji Ado Bayero Alhaji Sunusi Ado Bayero into the Kano throne but rewarded and appease the Suspended CBN Governor Sunusi Lamido Sunusi.

Since the swearing in of former Governor Kwankwaso’s political protege Abba Kabir Yusuf there has been speculation all over Kano for the possible re-instalment of Emir Muhammad Sunusi II but the Government and the state assembly have denied the rumour.
