KANO, Nigeria – Kano Online Journalists have congratulated Nigerian Muslims on the completion of Ramadan fasting and successful Eid al-Fitr celebration.
In a statement after its Sallah meeting, signed by the Acting Chairman of the association, Yakubu Salisu, and Acting Secretary Abbas Yushau Yusuf, the group charged the Muslim umma to continue to uphold the spirit of Ramadan, which includes piety, patience, tolerance, and helping the needy.
The conglomeration of over 40 online publishers and journalists practicing in Kano vows to continue to uphold the ethics of journalism and fight fake news, which is spreading like wildfire and torturing the psyche of Nigerians.
The association further called on departments of mass communications across the country, especially the pioneer ones which include University of Nigeria Nsukka, University of Ibadan, Bayero University Kano, and University of Maiduguri, to liaise with various associations of online journalists in and outside Nigeria in safeguarding journalism ethics and profession as the world is switching over to online or digital journalism.
They also charged communication scholars across the country to give more emphasis on smartphone journalism as millions of people are now accessing information and news on smartphones.
