The Sultan of Sokoto and spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, Saad Abubakar, has officially declared Friday as the first day of Shawaal, signifying the end of the holy month of Ramadan for the year 1444 in the Islamic calendar.

After confirming the moon sighting from several locations across the country, the Sultan declared that April 21st will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr. This announcement marks the end of a month-long fast observed by Muslims worldwide.

Muslim faithfuls in Nigeria are urged to comply with COVID-19 protocols while celebrating the Eid al-Fitr festival. The Sultan further implored Muslims to pray for the country’s peace and unity, emphasizing the importance of love, compassion, and forgiveness as significant pillars of Islam
