Congratulations on your recent election victory. As you prepare to take office, I would like to commend the police force in Kano for their relentless efforts in maintaining law and order in the state, despite the challenges they face. However, it is with great concern that I draw your attention to the issue of thuggery and phone snatching that has become rampant in Kano State.

Over the past few years, the issue of thuggery and phone snatching has become increasingly prevalent in Kano State, causing untold hardship and insecurity to residents of the state. The problem has reached an alarming level, with reports of armed thugs on some on Keke Napep and while some attacking random innocent individuas, snatching phones from unsuspecting citizens on a daily basis.

This menace has not only led to a rise in crime and insecurity in the state, but it has also caused untold economic losses to the affected individuals, as most of them depend on their phones for their businesses.

While I acknowledge the efforts of the police force, more needs to be done to tackle this menace. I suggest the following solutions in addition to the ones you may have at heart:

OPINION: Forty Years Without Aminu Kano

Increase Police Presence: Your government should increase the presence of the police force in hotspots areas where phone snatching is most prevalent. This will serve as a deterrent to would-be thugs and ensure that citizens can go about their daily business without fear of being robbed.

Community Policing: Your government should also establish community policing groups and even make the existing once with more responsible citizens in various neighborhoods and communities. This group can work hand in hand with the police to report suspicious activities and prevent crimes from occurring.

Consistent Street Lights: There should be consistent street lights in areas where phone snatching is common, especially at night. This will increase visibility and deter criminals from carrying out their nefarious activities.

More Police Patrolling Vehicles: Your administration should provide more police patrolling vehicles equipped with the necessary tools and technology to respond quickly to incidents of phone snatching and other crimes. This will help to apprehend the criminals and prevent them from escaping.

More Awareness Campaigns: Your government should embark on more awareness campaigns to educate the public on safety measures and self-defense techniques. This will help citizens to be more vigilant and able to protect themselves in case of an attack.

Stiff Penalties: Finally, your government should also enact laws that provide for stiff penalties for phone snatching and thuggery. This will serve as a deterrent to would-be criminals and ensure that they think twice before committing such acts.

I urge you to prioritize this issue and take the necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of the citizens of Kano. With your leadership, we can make Kano a safer place for all.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
