The Oba Yoruba of Kano, Oba Murtala Alimi Otisese, hosted journalists for an Iftar meal during Ramadan at his palace in Kano. During the event, Oba Alimi called for peace and stability among Nigerians, and urged journalists in Kano and Nigeria to use their platforms to promote these values. He also welcomed journalists to his palace for advice and support.

The Oba Yoruba of Kano expressed appreciation for the positive image of the palace projected by Kano journalists, and encouraged them to maintain this level of professionalism. Rilwanu Idris Malikawa Garu, a veteran journalist in Kano and the Vice President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), thanked the Oba Yoruba for his cordial relationship with journalists and requested his sponsorship for journalist trainings, particularly in digital journalism and sports institutions such as Delta State.

The journalists who participated in the Iftar meal came from various media outlets, including online, print, and broadcast media based in Kano.
