UNICEF staff association hands over renovated facility to girls secondary school

The Staff Association of UNICEF Kano Field Office has handed over renovated classrooms and toilets to Government Junior Girls Secondary School, Badawa, Kano.

Speaking at the ceremony on Friday in Kano, chairperson of the association, Mr. Saka Adebayo, said that the gesture was to support to children and women in the communities where they operate as part of the association’s 2022 charity project.

According to him, they renovated two classrooms and supplied 30- seater chairs with desks to the school in Badawa, Kano metropolis, to improve learning outcomes for the girls through conducive learning environment.

“We renovated the principal’s office and eight eight units of toilets six for students and two for teachers to aid teaching and learning at the school.

“At least, 90 students will enjoy the two
renovated classrooms and the 30 -seater chairs, desks provided, the entire 1,851 girls, 42 teachers (10 females), and the principal will benefit from the eight units of toilets renovated, ” he explained.

Adebayo noted that more of similar support and working together with government, parents, and communities, they c retain more children in school, especially girls and ensure that they complete at least secondary education.

The chairperson commend UNICEF Chief of Field Office (CFO) for his leadership and all members of UNICEF Kano Field Office Staff Association and school management for their contributions for making implementation of this project a reality.

Earlier, the Principal of the school, Hajiya Binta Ali, said that the project was initially started by the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school to roofing stage.

She appreciated the association for the project and development of the school, adding that their contributions in terms of resources and time had made teaching and learning more conducive in the school.

The chairman PTA of the school, Malam Musa Dambatta lauded them for their focus and determination in ensuring that the task of giving the school a new look was carried out in good time.
He enjoined the teachers and students to continue to make judicious use of the facility.

Dambatta appealed to other individuals and organizations to emulate the association.
