The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Kano State Council and indeed the entire workers, pensioners, and their unions wish to commiserate with the Government and people of Kano State over the double tragedy that engulfed the State in the last two days.
In a statement by Kano state chairman Kabiru Ado Minjibir reads
“First, was the massive flooding arising from heavy downpours witnessed in the State, especially around the famous Kantin Kwari Market which resulted
In the loss and damage of properties worth millions of naira belonging to the marketers.
The second tragedy was the collapse of a three-story building along Beirut Road that led to the deaths of some people including our member a staff of KEDCO who pay the Supreme price in line of duty, while others sustained various degrees of injuries.
While sympathizing with those who lost their properties including those affected at different locations In the State, we pray to Almighty Allah to
grant eternal rest to those who lost their lives, and to their immediate families, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
We would like to use this opportunity to acknowledge the immediate emergency response by NEMA, SEMA, RED CROSS, FIRE SERVICE, SECURITY AGENCIES and many others in rescue operations during the building collapse. We also appreciate the steps taken by the government to ameliorate the situation by promising to take all the necessary actions to forestall future occurrences of this and a similar incidences.
NLC further appeals to the State Government and all wealthy individuals and organizations in the State to come to the aid of all those affected in one way or the other in the spirit of humanitarian consideration and urge the general public to contribute their quota especially on effective waste disposal during and after the raining season.
