Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology (FCAPT) Kano, launched new machines that will help in reducing post harvest losses to the farmers.
The Provost of College, Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u Gwaram stated this during a project inspection tour to the College permanent site in Barkum area of Bunkure Local Government in Kano.
Gwaram said the development is as a result of the demand by the students as part of their area of studies.
He said the new machines purchased by the College includes dryer, tomato grinding machine, steam boiler and other grains processing machines.
“This machines will help immensely in the practical aspect of our students, as their courses majorly deals with practicing day by the day.
“Also it will also serve for Commercial purposes, which in return the College will directly generate revenue to sustains the operations of the machines, Dr. Gwaram stated.
The Provost added that, the College saw it imperative to establish quality control room, and laboratory for testing and ensure healthy method of packaging the processed food.
“This machines are multipurpose, in the sense that it will pave way for producing juices, yoghurt, grains powder among others.
“So aside the system will also expose our students to all the practical aspect of the courses they are studying in the College, which will be of great impact to them especially when working with food processing companies after they graduated, Provost FCAPT.
Early this year, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), paid a visit to the College to inspect 5 new programmes of study.
Currently the Management of FCAPT plan to launch two new programmes of National Diploma in Post Harvest Technology, and Producing Inspection.
The Management promised to continue providing practical oriented courses, as it is part of mission and vision of establishing the College.
