The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to 300 victims of fire, flood and farm flood disaster in Kano state.
The Director General NEMA, Mr Mustapha Ahmed-Habib, made the disclosure at the Flagg off distribution of relief materials to 2021 disaster victims in Kano on Tuesday.
Ahmed-Habib,represented by Mr Nuhu Alhassan, the Director Relief and Rehabilitation said that the materials were relief to alleviate their sufferings.
“the beneficiaries include 300 disaster victims of fire,flood and farm flood across the 24 Local Government Area of Kano.
He said that the items included cement, roofing sheets, vegetable oil, zink nail,bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of maize, Maggi cube, tin tomato paste and salt.
In his remark, the Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje said that the state government is always concern with the plights of its citizens and is ready to do everything possible to protect and uplift the status of its people.
Ganduje represented by Deputy Governor, Dr Nasiru Gawuna,commended the Federal Government and Director General NEMA for his special concern in the affairs of Kano state and also commended SEMA and entire staff of the Agency for the selfless service they have been rendering to the people of the state.
“There is no amount of relief materials that could be given to you that will assuage the pain of losing a love one, especially if he is the breadwinner.”
Ganduje called on the general public to always listen to advice’s and warnings issued by relevant authorities on how to avert and curtail disaster as well as environmental management.
He urged the beneficiaries to make proper and judicious use of the items given to them.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary Kano State Emergency and Rehabilitation Agency(SEMA), Dr Saleh Jili, said it has recorded 457 cases of fire incidents and property worth N733.8 million were destroyed in 2021.
“Out of 457 victims of fire disaster,12 were dead while 139 were injured.
“3,337 victims were affected by flood out of which 27 lost their lives, 21 injured and 341 farmlands were washed away.
“Each of the victims will be giving two bundles of roofing sheet,two bags of cement,one packet of zin nail,two 10kg bags of rice,two 10kg bags of beans.
“Others include one 10kg bag of maize,one carton of Maggi cube,two tins of tomato paste,one Jerrycan of vegetable oil and two sachets of salts”
He commended Gov Ganduje, Federal Government and Director General NEMA for their support to SEMA.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Abubakar Baba,expressed joy,commended NEMA and the Federal Government for the gesture and promised to use it judiciously.
