<p>Mr Gawuna had served as chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Council when Mr Shekarau was governor between 2003 and 2007.</p>
<p>DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that Mr Shekarau had concluded arrangement to make formal announcement for his defection to New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, on Saturday.</p>

<p>Mr Gawuna, according to inside sources, visited the Mundubawa Road residence of the former governor in company of a few close associates on Tuesday night.</p>

<p>“When he came, Mallam [Shekarau] was alerted about his presence, but Mallam refused to see him. Gawuna was later told that Mallam was deep asleep after taking his medication,” said a source at the Mundubawa residence.</p>
<p>DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the former governor, who now represents Kano Central Senatorial District, jetted to Abuja on Wednesday morning.</p>
<p>Sources close to Mr Shekarau said that he had reached a point of no return in his decision to dump the APC.</p>
