Shariah Controversy:Obasanjo Directed Kwankwaso To Inaugurate Islamic Law In Kano-Yerima

The pioneer civilian governor of Zamfara State senator Ahmad Sani Yeriman Bakura said former President Olusegun Obasanjo directed former Governor of Kano state Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to introduce Islamic Law in Kano in the year 2000.

Ahmad Sani Yeriman Bakura stated this in a viral video being circulated on social media platforms.

When he came to power on May 29 1999 , Yeriman Bakura on the 27th of October 1999 introduced Islamic Law in Zamfara State which generates criticisms especially from non Muslims and some atheists.

Ahmad Sani Yerima told journalists that since the Sharia law generated a heated debate across the country President Olusegun Obasanjo summoned a meeting of the 19 northern state governors in which he made unprintable comments about Islam and Muslims.

Former Governor Ahmad Sani says since obasanjo’s comment angered some Muslim northern governors like late Engineer Abdulkadir Kure of Niger state he also called Obasanjo unprintable names and says if iam opportuned I will come and attack you.

Yerma added that it was former national security adviser General Aliyu Muhammad Gusau that douse the tension and took away former President Obasanjo from the meeting where he asked the northern governors to stop introducing Sharia from that very day.

Another scenario that played again according to Yeriman Bakura was that a Christian governor from plateau state Joshua Dariye said he will also go back to Plateau state and declare it a Christian state and Introduce Christian laws.

Yeriman Replied Dariye that if that was the case he will join him in Plateau state in making sure Christian laws are introduced in Plateau since he has read about it.

Yeriman narrated to Dariye that he has read Christian laws where some of the provisions directs the execution of a thief noting that if it happens Nigeria will be a just society.

The former Zamfara State Governor added that when they dispersed from the villa after heated meeting with President Olusegun Obasanjo ,Late Governor Abdulkadir Kure asked his chief press secretary to gather journalists at Niger Government House for the introduction of Islamic Law.

He said after Kure former President Umaru Musa Yaradua as Governor of Katsina state also went back to Katsina and inuagurated the Islamic Law,then Bafarawa did it in Sokoto.

As the scenario goes on another Northern Muslim governor who refuse to introduce the Sharia after the villa meeting was Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

By then Kwankwaso is been pressurized everywhere in Kano to introduce the Islamic law,then Kwankwaso hardly goes to public Mosques without being booed ,he went to the extent of going to military Barr acks for Jumuat prayers,even in the barracks Kwankwaso receives pressure from Muslim worshippers for him to introduce Sharia since about five to six states have done.

“One day former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso called me that Obasanjo have asked him to introduce Sharia in Kano and if he refuses he will not win the 2003 general elections”

That was how former Kano state governor RAbiu Musa Kwankwaso Introduced Sharia’ said Yeriman Bakura.

Kwankwaso invited me to come to Kano and a large gathering of Muslims throng the venue for the Sharia Introduction in which they were only to stand on top of the bus conveying them, Introduced the Sharia and dispersed.
