Kano Zone of Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), has called on parents, students and other stakeholders to support the struggle to save Nigerian university system from imminent collapse.

Prof. Abdulkadir Muhammad, the Zonal Coordinator, said this on Friday during a press conference at the unions secretariat , Bayero University Kano (BUK).

“We call on Civil Society Organization, religious and traditional rulers, media and other stakeholders to be more vigilant and join us in the struggle to save Nigerian university system collapse,” he appealed.

Muhammad also urged the federal government to allow the ongoing integrity test to be finalized for quick deployment of UTAS in the interest of Nigerian public university system.

“We urged the Federal Government to adopt the Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) platform for the payment of salaries and other entitlements,” he explained.

He expressed worries that if the UTAS platform was not deployed by the federal government, the whole essence of the university autonomy would be defeated.

The coordinator also expressed worries over the increasing spate of insecurity, rising poverty and unemployment in the country.

Muhammad further said that ASUU Kano zone was deeply disturbed about the recent bombing of Abuja-Kaduna bound train , which resulted in the loss of lives of innocent commuters.

“The zone calls on government at all levels to take their foundamental constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property of Nigerians with utmost seriousness.

“We also urged the security agencies to facilitate the rescue and safe return of the kidnapped commuters to their families,” he said.

Our correspondent reports The national body of ASUU had rejected the IPPIS which the government introduced to curb corruption and eliminate financial leakages within the Federal Government.

The pressure group also accuses NITDA boss of bias and false narrative by telling the general public that UTAS did not pass integrity test which is far from the truth.
