If there is one thing I dislike about politics, Nigerian politics especially, is the fact that loyalty, competence and reward for hard work means nothing to most politicians, even with those who seem to have more credence and integrity than the others.
And this instance is not better highlighted than the recent opposing stands of Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s (Turakin Keffi) chairmanship candidacy of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
I am never a fan of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, but say what you want about the man, he has done well for Nasarawa state during his time as governor and is certainly loyal to President Buhari and the APC. I know because I have monitored his politics closely for long and I sit with people in every political platform across the Nasarawa state and Nigeria as a whole.
2023:Kwankwaso’s Die Hards Pledges Loyalty To Sule Lamido
He is a serial Political Winner, who have seen it all from the second Republic to date. He is very experienced, down to earth, unassuming, and firm. He is a bridge builder.
It is therefore no surprise that millions of party faithfuls allegedly looking up to Adamu, a serving Senator of Nasarawa North, whom they believe has what it takes in terms of maturity and experience to lead the party especially in this time of rancour.
Right now, The APC needs a rescue the party needs redemption, the party deserves a balanced, experienced, tested, trusted and a faithful hand.
The party needs a team player and a unifying leadership, and above all the party needs stability and there is no better man to bring or give all of these other than Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
People will always have different political ambitions even with the same party faithfuls, so internal party crises is never a new thing otherwise there won’t be defections and counter defections. Having said that, the shallow gang up against Senator Adamu from some chieftains of his party leaves very little for comprehension.
It’s magically how Senator Adamu himself has managed to focus on the task ahead despite despite the continuous attacks of some ill-wishers from inside the party. He pays no attention to the campaign of calumny against him, all he is doing is trying to bring the party men and women together for victory come March 26.
Another testimony of Adamu’s fit for the seat of the APC chairmanship is the fear of his candidacy from the opposing PDP, which is a clear delineation of the man’s leadership qualities and sense of purpose. The PDP has been jittery with every support Senator Adamu gets from the good people of the APC.
I must admit, I am terrible disappointed by the selfish and biased views of those who don’t want this bridge builder at the helm of the affairs of the party. As smart and experience as they all seem, I would have expected these people to support Adamu’s ambition as it is an established fact that he is the right man for the job.
A party chairman like him should be a thing of pride for every party member, ain’t it? Except these people are trying to tell us that their selfish interest is bigger than anything good for the party and Nigeria as a whole.
I am not saying Senator Abdullahi Adamu has the answers to all the problems in the APC right now but if you are looking for the candidate with a vision to serve as a bridge builder, as a peace maker and healer of broken pieces, then don’t look further than Senator Adamu.
As a founding father of the party himself, Senator Adamu fully understood the precepts, the mechanisms and constitution of the party and that he knew the ethos, the tradition and culture built during the formation of the party.
I truly hope someone, somewhere will advise the wailers in the APC about doing what’s right and standing for what’s best for the party because we all know the situation of the party at the moment and we know what it will take to move the party forward and make it the biggest political come together in Africa, therefore, it’s time we set aside our interest and gains and put the right man at the helm of things in the APC. A word is enough for the wise.
