<p>Nigeria like all other nations of the world has certain national interest to cherish. <p>However, primary interest of all nations of the earth are the protection of citizens internally and externally, independence, territorial integrity .<br />
Thus, protection of Nigerians who are living abroad become her primary interest. It has become apparent for the last three months that Russia threatening to invade Ukraine after Russia amassed more than 100,000 security guards on Ukraine border.</p>
<p>This has captured the attention of international community such US, UK and other European allies to get embroiled in order to ease the tensions diplomatically but unsucceeded following the US declaration of Russian&#8217;s demand as non starter.</p><div class="wCaC6RgD" style="clear:both;float:left;width:100%;margin:0 0 20px 0;"><script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script>

<p>Kremilin has quested that Ukraine shouldn&#8217;t join NATO because perhaps Ukraine becomes instrumental mechanism of destabilizing Russia in the future. Thus, last week US and her alliances called on their citizens to flee Ukraine by all means due to an imminent nature of Russia&#8217;s onslaught. Such countries however tried beyond harder and evacuated their personnel.</p>
<p>I felt a great sense of consternation when the announcement of Nigerian foreign affairs reached me that Nigerians are advised to remain in their residence till the airports resume so as to be repatriated back to Nigeria. Despite the fact that US warned of an imminent invasion but Nigeria didn&#8217;t make any process nor call on our dear citizens who are living in Ukraine to come back but shortly after the escalations.</p>
<p>On 28 march 2022, BBC news report that, security forces deterred some Nigerians from having access to buses and trains that were meant to evacuate from Ukraine to Poland. About 4,000 Nigerians have became stranded in Ukraine. According to BBC news, video footage shot security forces stopping Nigerians from escaping. This footage also substantiated how a Nigerian woman together with her infant was forced to give her sit to a white man. More so, a number of Nigerians students were stopped by security forces from escaping to Poland and left with no option rather than to remain in Ukraine</p>
<p>However, Everybody knows that Nigeria is battling to address internal issues such as kidnapping, banditry, terrorism and it&#8217;s obvious that such issues have already become an intractable to Nigeria. Then, how do you anticipate a nation which fails to protect and promote her nearby citizens to protect distance ones.</p>
<p>The reality is that, we have bad governance which favoured nepotism and appointments based on connection not on credibility. Majority of the diplomats are there because of who you know syndrome and that&#8217;s why they found it extremely difficult to come up with a suggestion or process on how to guarantee safety of our dear brothers in Ukraine but ended of suggesting that Nigerians who are living in Ukraine should remain in their residence.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m calling on Nigerian foreign affairs to do whatever it takes to rescue and bolster the stranded Nigerians who are still in Ukraine in spite of the growing tensions.</p>
