Electronic Sound Causes Hearing Loss-Expert

Excessive exposure to electronic sound can lead total hearing loss. This was revealed by Dr. Yasir Jibrin Tofa a Consultant at the department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) during a sensitisation lecture to staff and students of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano in commemoration of world hearing day 2022.

Dr Yasir cited some of the major causes of Noise Induced Hearing Loss as excessive use of smartphones earpieces, generator sounds, unregulated noise from event loudspeakers and sudden exposure to loud noise for short or long duration among other factors.

Similarly, Prof Abubakar Danjuma Salisu a consultant department of Otorhinolaryngology ENT AKTH, also sensitized staff of the hospital on the implications of excessive exposure to sound and measures of curtailing Noise Induced hearing loss.

Prof. Danjuma further encourages hearing test, awareness campaigns and sensitization lectures especially to the classified individuals who are at risk of contracting Noise Induced Hearing Loss and also call on the general public to limit the time Spent on Noisy activities to a maximum of 40hours a week as measures of tackling Noise Induced Hearing Loss.

Meanwhile, 50 Students of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education and 126 People from Marmara Community in Kano Municipal Local Government Area benefits from Free Hearing Test, Consultation and Medications.
