The Senator representing Kano North, Barau I. Jibrin has described stories in a section of the media on his meeting over the weekend with Abdulaziz Ganduje, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s son as a fake news.
It can be recalled that over the weekend , the social media and some online publications were awash with story of a meeting between Abdulaziz Ganduje and Senator Barau Jibrin with insinuations that the meeting was to prevail on the federal lawmaker to drop his gubernatorial aspiration.
The story suggested that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje sent his son to meet Barau Jibrin to still contest for the senate in 2023 rather than the governorship seat.
Barau Jibrin is a member of the G7 faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano.
The faction has been in a running battle with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje group over the affairs of the party that led to parallel congresses and court issues.
Speaking to newsmen on Monday, Senator Barau Jibrin Media Aide, Hon. Shittu Madaki Kunchi denied the story, noting that the picture was taken in late 2020.
The story is not true as that picture was during the visit of Abdulaziz Ganduje to Senator Barau’s office at the National Assembly in late 2020. There was even Dambatta House of Representatives member, Hon. Badamasi Ayuba,’’ the media aide said.
Shittu Madaki Kunchi said Barau Jibrin who is the Senate Committee Chairman on Appropriation was not even in Kano over the weekend as stated by the fake news story.
He noted that Senator Barau has not seen or spoken to Abdulaziz Ganduje over a year plus.
The Edited Picture
The media aide urged mischief makers to desist from such act of spreading fake news which can create chaos in the society.
Also, investigation through fact-checking tools , show that the picture was actually taken in 2020.
