Image Merchants institutes prizes for best students in PR , Digital Economy at BUK

The chairman, Image Merchants Promotion Limited, a Public Relations Agency, Alhaji Yusha’u Shuaib, has instituted annual Prizes/Awards for the Best Graduating student in Public Relations and Digital Economy at Bayero University Kano (BUK).

Presenting a cheque of one million Naira to the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Prof Sagir Abass, on Monday, at the university, Shuaib said that the gesture was to motivate and promote academic excellence amongst students.

He added that it would also encourage and challenge other students to work hard to attain the best in their fields.

According to him, the cash prize of N500,000 each would be given to best graduating student in Public Relations and in digital economy, all in the faculty of communication.

The chairman of Image Merchants Promotion, the parent company of PR Nigerian and economic confidential, further said that the award for the two best students was instituted for 10 years.

Shuaib explained that the two awards were named after Prof Bashir Ali, former Head of Department of Mass Communication, and Dr. Isa Pantami, minister of communication, for various contributions in their fields.

The publisher, who graduated from the department in 1992, also commended the management of the university for their efforts in developing the institution.

Responding, Prof Abass, commended Shuaib for the gesture and urged others to emulate him in order to make the university great.

He also commended him for his various interventions in the mentorship of students on modern skills in communication.

“For us it is a thing of pride to have our former student contributing towards the development of the school and the nation as a whole,” he explained.

Sagir explained that the Faculty of Mass communication would soon unveil a television station, after the successful launch of a full-fledged radio station, with support from the McArthur Foundation.
