The federal government of Nigeria, Monday, said it received additional delivery of 1,936,050 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines (J&J). Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, the executive director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCD), said the latest delivery is yet another donation by the European Union (EU).

In September 2021, Nigeria received additional 1,123,200 doses of the J&J vaccine through the African Vaccine Acquisition Team (AVAT) of the African Union, a facility provided by AFREXIMBANK as part of the 39,800,000 doses procured by the federal government. With today’s donation, Dr. Shuaib said “the total number of doses of the J&J vaccines in-country is 12,916,450 doses.”

In his remarks, Dr. Shiaib said he is confident in Nigeria’s economic and social recovery in the post-COVID-19 era. “I therefore earnestly call on all eligible Nigerians who are yet to be vaccinated to please register and get their jabs of the vaccine at any of the vaccination sites that is convenient for them,” he said.

In data released yesterday, Sunday by the NPHCDA, more than 15 million Nigerians have so far received their first dose while 6.1 million are fully vaccinated.
