Writers were the real founders of Kannywood

Although not everything Kannywood was there, the most salient and greater part of it were there.

Even if it was really an authors’ gathering, it turned out the heart of Kannywood that was realised thence.

The 25th December, 2021 was the day of the veteran journalist, Mal Nasir Gwangwazo, the union which tied at the Wudilawa Mosque in the epicentre of the ancient Kano city by 10:30am.

It was a wonderful convergence that significant figures attended in which among them an international genius physician, Dr Sarki Abba. Also the only dual Professorship achiever in Nigeria, Abdallah Uba Adamu.

Were there Kannywood musician Nazifi Asnanic and other filmmakers in an unidentified number for the wedding. After some cultural pleasantries paid to the in-laws around Wudilawa areas, the groom and other authors proceeded in their multitudes to the venue where the groom organised a book launching programme, titled, Ruwan Jakara, whence the writers unfolded how in the first place they happened to be the pioneers of the modern Kannywood which was from the scratch.

The MC of the event, Ahmad Alkanawy, invited the veteran author, Mal Ado Ahmad Gidan Dabino to the podium who related how a story writer surpassed all filmmaking crew including the director and producer in film production being the story the bedrock of any movie and the likes.

The experienced and top producer, Dr Muhammad Sarari, shared his experience during a film festival in a European country where because of the beauty of the story alone his film made it which fortunately the groom and book launching author scripted.

The Chairman of the Kannywood filmmakers in person of Umar Gombe encouraged all the participants of the event on how to develop the filmmaking activity.

The Chairman Association of Nigerian Authors, Kano State Chapter, Malam Tijjani Muhd Musa, expressed his dismay over writers condition in spite of their positions in film production.

A talented Hausa poet, Abdullahi Lawan Kangala entertained the gathering thereby refreshing them with his poem composed for the groom cum author, Mal Nasiru Gwangwazo. A renowned Kannywood Producer, Abdul Amart lamented how indiscipline is ravaging the industry just because of disunity that bedevils the members. One popular veteran journalist who bravely used to report the Maitatsine crises from the battlefield, Mal. Nasir B Zahraddin, was in attendance.

A writing activist, Kabiru Yusuf Anka, the Chairman Jigawa apex writers’ group, Jigawa State Writers Association (JISWA), Hashim Abdallah M/Madori, a renowned film director, Kamal S. Alkali all were in attendance. Also in the gathering, a producer and press journalist, Al’amin Ciroma, former ANA Kano Chapter Chairman Mal Zahraddin I Kallah, an erudite lecturer in the Alqalam University, Katsina Hajiya Bilkisu Yusuf Ali who also spoke on the important issues germane to creativity, Literature and filmmaking. A director considered to be top in the Kannywood attended and spoke on the issues raised there, ie Mal Aminu Saira.
