Human Rights Day: Zamfara Sexual Assault referral Center records 366 cases

The Zamfara State sexual assault referral center has recorded 366 cases that included rape and domestic violence despite many challenges encountered in the State.

The center said its faces many challenges when it come to prosecution of cases in the State.

The medical Director of the center Dr Aminat M.Hassan disclosed during a round table meeting organized by International Human Rights Commission, Zamfara State to  commemorate the Day in the State.

Dr Aminat lamented that the referral center recorded 366 cases mostly on sexual assault,rapes and domestic violence since it was established in 2019 in the State.

According to the MD,the cases when fully established were referred to relevant agencies for neccessary action.

“Currently we have suspended our service as a result of challenges encountered,we have no office accommodation”.

She maintained that Zamfara has only one referral center and called on government to establish  sexual assault referral center across the three senatorial zone in the State.

“Majority of the cases involved young Children and 3 months as the youngest case recorded in the State.”

Those at the round to commemorate the International Human Rights day included officials of the State International human rights commission headed by Mr Abdullahi,Officials from ministry of Women and Children affairs,Media civil society working on Gender Based violence in the State.
