Governor Rasheedi Ladoja of Oyo state was impeached by the Oyo state House of assembly in January 2006 and his Deputy Adebayo Alao Akala was sworn in.

Governor Ladoja’s battle with the political godfather of Ibadan politics, late Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu ,the King of Amala politics was instrumental to Governor Ladoja losing the control of his party ,Adebayo Alao Akala became the governor after the impeachment of Ladoja a year to 2007 general elections, that made Akala to be elected Governor of Oyo state.

In the second republic control over ruling party by governors happened in so many states of the federation, especially in the North,Late Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Rimi a sitting Governor also lost the grip of the state’s ruling party ,the PRP ,Late Governor Rimi resigned three month to the election and decamped to Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe’s Nigeria People’s Party,Late Governor Muhammad Abubakar Rim lost the 1983 Gubernatorial election to Late Alhaji Aliyu Sabo Bakin Zuwo of the PRP.

Unlike the fourth republic and second republic Governors , Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has some slight differences as he battle over the control of the All Progressive Congress affairs in Kano, Governor Ganduje has 18 month to hand over power to the next Governor of Kano as he inches towards completion of his second term.

If the court ruling is obeyed by the APC national secretariat ,Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje will be the first Governor of Kano state in the fourth republic to lose control of the party affairs in whose platform he become Governor in 2015 and 2019.
