The Federal Government has flagged off the distribution of relief materials to the 9,600 victims of 2020 flooding in the country.
The Minister, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Sadiya Umar Faruk stated this at the official flag off of the distribution exercise, held in Miga, Jigawa State.
Represented by the parmanent secretary of the ministry,Alhaji Bashir Umar Alkali, the minister said the relief materials included cash and in-kind, to be distributed to the victims in worse sixteen states devastated by flood.
The minister explained that the assistance was given to sixteen states most hit some in kind others in Cash.
According to her” 1600 households of 9,600 persons, provision of shelter kits to 183 households comprising 1,098 persons most especially widow’s and women-headed households and provision of 62 motorized boreholes and 62 hand washing points across the flood prone states of the country” she stated.
The state Deputy Governor, Malam Umar Namadi commended the Federal Government for the lassistance which he said will assist in stabilization of the beneficiaries and their communities.
The devastating impact of 2020 flooding has claimed the lives of 68 people, affected over 129,000 people, destroyed thousands of houses and farmlands in thirty five states.
The relief materials was provided by Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) through Red-Cross to complements the effort of federal government in supporting the victims.
