To some people, running small-scale businesses only brings hardship and waste of time to their operators, thus shunning them and dreaming to secure a lucrative work either with the government or large companies.

But, there are hundreds of thousands of people of different caliber in Nigeria who venture into SMEs and their businesses are broadly smiling at them.

Dayyabu Lawan Bala, a 40 year old Councillor of Sabon Birni ward in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, who doubles as a tea seller for nearly two decades says, his tea business brings him more profit and wealth than his political work.

On Wednesday, Honourable Dayyabu’s story hits social media platforms and generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians after it is being published by some online news mediums.

Dayyabu, who is married to three wives, 13 children, his two brothers and parents revealed how his tea business helps him to cater for the needs of his family, “and I am earning about N10,000 or N6,000 on daily basis as a profit.”

“This business has dressed me up and made me not to beg for anything from anyone, I am thankful to God for enabling me to be this strong in my business. I want to assure you that I have three wives currently, and I have many other people that work under me.”

According to him, his business does not stop him from performing his duty as an elected councilor, “I open my shop every morning and leave when I have an office work.”

He says, he has a plan to launch a program of empowering his tea colleagues and other small-scale businesses operators in this ward, thereby appealing to Kano state government and we’ll to do individuals to assist him with every support.
