A 25 year old woman identified as Maimuna wadaji has set herself ablaze to protest her husband plan to take second wife in Dutse local Government, Jigawa State.
State command, police public relations officer ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
He said the incident happened on Sunday at Rungumau village after her husband unveil his plan to marry second wife.
Adam explained that the woman had earlier protested after she got information about her husband’s plan to remarry his ex-wife whom he divorced years back.
He said Mrs Wadaji therefore decided to used petrol inside her house and set the fire after the husband refused to abandoned his mission.
“She decided to set herself in flames, therefore ,following ravaging fire she then ran outside shouting for help before residents came and quenched the fire and rescued her, the police said.
Police spokesperson however said, the victim survived with body burns and is responding to treatment at Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse.
