‘The truth of your character is expressed through the choice of your actions ‘ a wise man once said. And a famous Author, Byron R. Pulsifer added that ‘ Character is not something that you buy; it is not a commodity that can be bartered for; it is not a quality suited for only the rich and famous; rather, a character is built upon the foundational commitment of love, honesty, and compassion for others ‘.
That was exactly what Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal demonstrated a few days ago when the State Government in collaboration with Security Agencies clamped down on thugs, drug dealers, and takers that normally converged at the Raymond Village. I like leaders that buttress their words with actions, hence the reason why I so much likes Governor Tambuwal. Many admonish his focus on human development.
And on 13 July, he led his Deputy, Munir Muhammad Dan’iya, and all the Heads of Security Agencies in Sokoto to the village. There, he gave the assurance that his administration based on the recommendations of the interim report from the State Security Council will demolish the village after screening all the legit residence of the area who will be relocated to another community.
Tambuwal maintained that the decision to demolish the building came up in consideration of the fact that many of those residing there have no permission from the Government. He further explained that the decision has no relation with any attack on any tribe or religion in Nigeria. The decision according to Governor Tambuwal is purely to halt the rising immorality taking place in the area.
Tambuwal is calm personified. He executes positive policies calmly, and without notice to critics. There were several calls from different quarters in Sokoto about the bizarre happenings in Raymond Village. A place many in Sokoto referred to the all shenanigans and miscreants hideouts. Every dick and harry that engages in drugs, robbery, and burglary camped in the area.
Tambuwal’s decision to totally cleanse the area reminds me so much of a title written by James Hardly Chase; Just the way it is. He smartly, and efficiently turned the waves positively. Raymond Village is now a demilitarized area, and I’m as sure as everybody in Sokoto that Tambuwal will set the area on a brighter course. Just as he promised to Sokoto people that his administration will not tolerate any uncalled attitude by anybody, and Alhamdulillah he has since been matching his utterances with actual actions.
That was the reason why I defeated a friend that we argued with about the paces Tambuwal has set in Nigeria. I referred him to many decisions Tambuwal’s administration took that made it the first state in the country to do so. Our minds are afresh with how when other State Governors are reluctant to engage the Youths in governance, Tambuwal took the bull by the horn and appointed Youths in many strategic positions. And the result has been outstanding, and logical.

And that was the case scenario in Mabera Area. The opposition in the State mocked his administration even after knowing that the challenge was not from the side of the State Government. And now that the narrative is garrulously not what they hoped for, they unremarkably kept dumb. Just as the same unfolded a few days ago when he signed the bill for Legislature and Judiciary independence and financial autonomy even though it was historic being Sokoto the first to have done so.
A lot of these feats are being recorded day after day in Sokoto. And with Tambuwal on the saddle of leadership in the State, we are very much sure that many are coming. Sokoto is sure becoming more, and more the State we’ve been dreaming of.
