Its Ridiculous To Include Mathematics As Criteria For Admission Into Journalism Courses-Prof Adamu

Faculty of Communication, Bayero University, Kano in conjunction with some Mass Communication Departments has begun a two-day Seminar to assess and reveiw the carriculum for post-graduate programmes in Nigerian Universities.

The host, Professsor Umaru Pate, in his opening remarks, has said the review is a platform towards changing the face of journalism across the country.

The chairman of the reveiw, Dr. Noel who represented the NUC Boss, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed said that NUC would do everything possible to support the change after the commission unbundled Mass communication program in all Nigerian Universities.

In his contributions, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of National Open University of Nigeria, Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu said it is lamentable that mathematics was considered as a requirement to gain admission to study Post Graduate Programme in Communication.

He stressed that it is ridiculus as it has dissuaded a lot of potential candidates for the various programmes. He further noted that the NUC has a role to correct this culture.

The programme which is currently taking place in Kano has lecturers, Professors and other communication gurus from different universities in attendance and it is expected to be concluded on thursday, 29th of this month.
