The governor of Edo state , Godwin Obaseki has described sports as the sole tool that destroys disunity in Nigeria.
Obaseki made the statement on Sunday evening while recieving NSF 2020 Unity Torch at the state government house in Benin .
According to him sports serves as the unifying umbrella that sinks disharmony in Nigeria, adding that against all odds Nigerians are unified in sports.

Obaseki disclosed that inspite of the economic hardship being suffered owing to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Edo state government mobilized resources to host the games with the intent to foster national unity.
He noted that at this time in the history of Nigeria as a nation, sports is pivotal to national survival. According to Obaseki the games will accord Nigerian youths the vacuum to do what they aspire and know how to do best “sports.”
He pledged that the state will keep the NSF Unity Torch burning, he assured Nigerians that Edo will go down in history as one of the host state that promoted national unity through sports.
