Jigawa lawmaker empowers Primary School students with bicycles

Jigawa Assembly member representing Yankwashi constituency has distributed 300 bicycles to primary and secondary school students in his constituency.

 

Speaking at the 4th empowerment program held at the headquarters of Yankwashi local government.

 

He said over N21m was spent to procured 300 bicycles and distributed them to students in the constituency.

 

Alkassim said the gesture was part of his efforts to assist the students, especially from the hard reach areas to attend schools as well as encourage others to develop an interest to attend school.

 

The state member explained that he deemed it necessary to involve students in his empowerment program considering the significance of education in nation-building.

 

“The importance of education cannot be over-emphasized in the society”. He noted.

The students according to him were selected across the 11 political wards and from different schools both primary and secondary schools based on merit.

 

Speaking, Commissioner of education, science, and technology, Dr. Yunusa Danzomo commended the member for the foresight, saying the bicycle distribution to students is the first of its kind and urged others to emulate the same.

 

Dr. Danzomo further solicits for members of the Jigawa state house of assembly to earmark 30% of their total constituency fund to the education sector, saying this will boost the morale of education at all levels.

 

Other items distributed include motorcycles, water pumping engines, beans and oil, sewing machines.
