The Canadian government and the Connected Development (CODE) have collaborated to galvanize mass action against gender-based violence in Kano state.

At a Consortium organised by CODE on Tuesday, the Canadian Acting High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Nicholas Simard said the collaboration birthed the training of 30 advocates that have been equipped with tools to handle GBV cases against women and children in the state.

He said the idea of training the advocates was conceived during the nationwide lockdown when rape cases increased and the need to protect women and girls became more important than ever.

On his part, the founder of CODE, Mr Hamzat Lawal commended the high Commissioner for supporting the training of the advocates, and pledged CODE’s readiness to collaborate with government and other stakeholders in ending GBV.

He said he looked forward to more collaborations with the state, saying “I hope and wish that the relationship will grow in strength”

In addition, the representative of the State and Attorney General of Kano, Barr. M. A. Lawan, gave assurance of Kano’s commitment to ending GBV in the state.
